Routine Help/Question

I’ve always said that the most ideal time for me to work out would be around 5:30/6:00am.

Getting up that early is easier said than done, however.

Do any of you regularly work out at that time and have an tips or tricks to get in the habit of waking up at that time?

My 10 Fitness Commandments

This list is subject to additions but this is what I came up with yesterday:

  1. I will eat clean for every meal except for one guilt free meal a week.
  2. Guilt free meals will not be fast food.
  3. I will get my sweat on 4-5 days a week.
  4. Say no to alcohol. Save money and it’s way healthier.
  5. A green tea a day keeps the doctor away.
  6. Prepare meals and snacks in advance as much as possible.
  7. Always grocery shop with a plan. If it isn’t on the list and it’s not healthy, I’m not getting it.
  8. Research and pick a fitness class for when football ends.
  9. Get a healthy cook book and try recipes.

I will work hard every day to abide by these commandments. I’ll prove to myself that my health is a priority. I’ll learn to say “I can’t, I’ll be working out” again.

I’m not starting over, I’m picking up where I left off.

Going to write a list of commandments

And make it a contract for myself.

I started my blog in April 2011 and my goal was to lose 31lbs. I lost 20 fairly quickly and I’ve kept it off with only minor fluctuations here and there.

The problem is I allowed that to be enough. I didn’t push harder for the final 10 to reach my goal. It has almost been a year, I should’ve reached my goal by now.

I honestly feel like subconsciously I’m afraid of reaching my goal.

So, I’m going to write down the “unwritten” rules I lived by when I started. I’ll be sure to post the list on here and I would love feedback.

On the first (skinny) notch of my new belt! It will only be a couple of weeks before I need another new belt.

Edit: I bought this belt in the summer and started on the 3rd notch.

Interesting stuff on the Biggest Loser tonight

They had a doctor on the show talking about how the brain functions when you’re overweight. Essentially (correct me if I’m wrong), the doctor purported that overweight people crave unhealthy foods more than lean people and the pleasure they derive from eating the food is much less than a lean person. Therefore, the overweight person needs to eat significantly more to achieve the same pleasure response as a lean person. Pretty crazy.

The part that stuck with me the most was when the doctor was talking about how the brain gets wired to want junk food and high fat foods. The doctor said it would take weeks to months to re-wire the brain to want healthy foods, but that even just a week going back to old habits could undo that re-wiring.

And the whole time I’m just thinking “that’s what happened to me”. I gained about 10 lbs when I went away in the summer and I’m just finally back to the pre-fall off the wagon weight. But I’m also just feeling back in my stride with eating and everything.

I will never allow myself to undo all the good that I’ve done. Cheats will be one meal not weekend long binges. I can’t start almost from scratch with the way my brain relates to food again.

Weigh in Results

I’m 2.4 lbs off my lowest weight during this experience and am 11.2 off my goal. At the beginning of the month I was close to 198 again (yikes) feels good to be back in the swing of things.

Just a follow up to my NSV post

It just goes to show that although I am struggling currently, I am miles ahead of where I was last year and that’s something to be proud of.

So for my Halloween costume this year I’m wearing the same white pants (after labour day, yes) that I wore last year. Last year they were a little tight but still fit.

This year? I can’t keep them up without a belt!

I need to do more

I can always do more.

I am finally back to the second notch on my belt. I had to use the third notch for a few weeks after gaining the weight from my vacation and subsequent lack of drive.
